Television shows and movies tend to idealize and romanticize many things, from relationships, to prison sentences. Not that the prisons depicted in films are glamorous necessarily - but many real world prisoners have spoken out against what they have seen depicted in Hollywood. That's simply not the truth. And the truth is harder to imagine than we realize.

#1 - Illness And Injury
It's not uncommon for women in prison to fall ill, or become injured, and as a matter of fact, there are much higher rates of illness and injury among female prisoners than their are among their male counterparts.
HIV, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, and STDs are quite common.
